Fireman David

On Friday a fireman came and his name was Fireman David. He came to teach all about becoming a fireman. One of the things he said is that you have to do is a test.

One test is called rat maze but you have to do it blindfolded. For the test you need to hold on to a piece of string but if you let go you are straight away out  and that means no job for you. He also told us have to hold a string to the end but if you let go of the string you are automatically out. People have to feel their way out and some people quit when they're halfway there because they are not brave.

He told us what you need to do when you're in a fire. He told us he has to figure out plans in the fire truck. If they stand up in the black smoke they can not see anything but if they stay down low they can crawl to find the fire. When the there is a fire they can just turn on the taps and then they can just put out the fire straight away and David also told as what you need to do when you are in a fire drop and roll.

When the smoke from the fire comes it sets off the alarm. So that's why they crawl. When they find the fire they get the water bucket and splash it on the fire.

Fireman David said if you lose then you are not a fireman. But if you pass the test you can be a fireman too. Listening to a firefighter helps me understand how to be a firefighter.
